How much should baby weigh at 35+4 weeks pregnant?

Question by sun_smile_yellow: How a great deal must child weigh at 35+four weeks pregnant?
I had a development scan this morning due to gestational diabetes and my small man weight 6lb 10oz.

What should really a baby weigh at this stage?
Is he too heavy?
Is it superior to be larger than smaller?

Thanks

at about 34 weeks i got hospitalised for a bleed they measured my son at about 7lb, i had him four weeks later at 9lb 1oz, so i consider they had been about correct, you could possibly have a significant infant too :)

    round 6-7lb

some people have larger children. I was only 6lb4oz at birth, where my husband and his brother were both over 10 lbs..

i did not have gestational diabetes and during that time my baby was already 8lbs. when she was born post term (42 wks) she was 11 1/2 lbs. sounds like a normal healthy size to me

docs don’t really know the exact weight anyway. they can only ‘guesstamate’

ultrasound weight estimations can be way off.
According to babycenter.com the average weight is about 5.25 pounds at 35 weeks.
You know the gestational diabetes will make the baby bigger so you should expect to have a fairly big baby.
Bigger can be better depending on what made them big.
Some babies born to women with gestational diabetes have problems with jaundice and having low blood sugars at birth. They also may not fit through the woman’s pelvis and may need to be deliver by c-section.

well the doctors ain’t worried i wouldn’t worry either, its better than having a scan and seeing the face screw up and saying ‘ooh she’s very small’ my daughter was born 4lbs 11oz full term couldn’t find a reason but i wouldn’t have been worrying that i might have done something wrong, i wish you all the best x

My daughter was born at 34 weeks weighing in at 6lbs 9ozs “she was completely healthy”, and my son was born at 35 weeks weighing 7lbs 8ozs “he was in the NICU for 3 days”. I had gestational diabetes with my son only and the pregnancy ended in a c-section. There daddy weighed 11lbs 7ozs when he was born so I assume they followed behind him. Babies grow at different rates. He could be 8-9 lbs or more when he is born. But also keep in mind an ultrasound can be off by a pound either way. Right now yes he may be a little bigger then he should be, but that doesn’t really mean anything, and sometime a bigger baby has the same troubles a smaller baby has..
