It is recommended not to bathe them every day as it removes natural oils in the skin. Once every 2-3 days is fine and just use baby wipes in between bath times.

Once or twice a week is enough and too much more can cause dry skin. You’re right, they dont get dirty at this point except for their nappy area and neck/arm area if spit up occurs. I have a 3 month old and used to bath her nightly until she got a case of severe dry skin. I now only give her a bath 1-2 times a week and wipe her down daily.

I bathe mine everyday because she gets spit and gunk up under her neck and chest area. Also, I like to have her bottom washed. You really do not HAVE to bathe them everyday but it’s not a bad habit to get into.

BTW bathing too much DOES NOT cause dry skin. My daughter has severe eczema(dry skin) and was told by doctors and you can read online everywhere that frequent bathes help. And I do notice an improvement in her skin when I bathe her everyday rather than every other day. Long baths can cause dry skin but short, frequent baths are great for dry skin because the water moisturizes their skin.

You should do it daily. They enjoy it and its also another special Mommy Me thing.

How little baths can you get away with?? Thats a bit odd, but to answer your question you can give your baby a bath everyday, or every other day, i mean how often do YOU bathe???

  6. islandmamma Says:

    Everyone does it different.
I like to bathe my babies every day. There is the exception of course. It sounds like yours could go every other day.
I just think since they sweat and lay in there diapers they need a good soak even if they are primarily clean.

Every 2-3 days I would recommend. Even if they are not dirty, they still have dead skin that builds up and can stink… If you want to check… run your finger along the back of the ear in the crease and then smell it… That will tell you if you bathe your baby enough. It sounds gross but thats how I learned. LOL

I bath my infant every night. (She’s 6 weeks old.) For the first week after her cord fell off, I tried to bath her according to the doctor’s instructions (once every 3 to 4 days) but I started to notice that the days I bathe her, she sleeps so much better. Personally, I would ease up on the lotion though – maybe only put lotion on the baby every few days. I’ve noticed that an OD of lotion leads to breakouts.

  9. Huba Says:

    First, the smell test.

Second, why not take the baby in the bath with you to make it a fun time.

So, that’s not a schedule; that’s just a pattern to follow.

I suggest bathing them every other day and maybe give your baby a little wipe in his/her creases on a morning.
Bathing them too much can take away natural oils in the body and hair.

We have just come out of Winter in Australia and I only bathed my daughter 2-3 times a week (she’s 3 months old too).

When I breastfeed there is little possetting and she really doesn’t need a bath except every 3rd day but when she was on the bottle for 2 weeks, I had to bath her more often…when you notice the hands getting sweaty/smelly it’s definitely time (lol).

Basically it doesn’t harm them to be slightly dirty and so long as you use products that don’t contain mineral oil, the drying issue isn’t a problem (unless of course your baby has eczema).

You’ll notice once they get older and the weather gets warmer, you’ll actually bath them daily.

You are not odd asking this question – it’s a very valid question

you are right the baby doesn’t get dirty (other than the but) so no need to take a bath every night. twice a week is fine. or every 3-4 days. you can use a baby wipe to wipe any in-between messes.

however i bathed my son ever night. still do. and now that he is 15 months, he loves bath time. he gets in and has a blast and it wears him out.

Mine has a dip every day but without soap.its part of her bedtime and relaxes her.

  14. Nikkisparkles Says:

To be honest, so long as you are cleaning your baby (top and tailing) every day it doesn’t matter if you don’t bathe him or her every day. In fact some professionals do say not to bathe every day. I have always bathed mine every day because I love the closeness I feel as I’m cleaning them and they absolutely love the water, but its not essential. I have a friend who only bathed her son three times in six weeks, but she did top and tail him twice a day.

  15. Miss L Says:

If baby has naturally healthy skin bathing every day CAN dry out babies skin, every other day or even going a couple of days in between is fine as long as you give top and tail and creases a wipe everyday with water and cotton wool or a facecloth (depending on age of the baby). If baby does get any dry spots but overall their skin is healthy just rubbing a tiny bit of vaseline in the area often solves the problem, its best to use as little fragranced product as possible. In the hospital they said to use Johnson’s baby top to toe wash and pampers sensitive wipes (UK). I still use them now, any other wipes or washes (even the same brand just not sensitive) brought him out in a rash, I only tried them because people had bought us them. His skin stays very healthy we never even have to use any nappy creams, only the odd bit of vaseline, recommended also in the hospital, for occasionally slightly dry skin on the shoulders, he’s now 18 months.

I know sometimes when they get a little older some say its good to get them in bath then bed routine but this is not for us as our son gets hyper after a bath so he gets his baths in the morning.

as a new born my son was given a bath about every other day and when he was about 2 months i started bathing him daily so i could get him into a bed time routine. i only used soap about once a week as he wasn’t really dirty. he’s 14 months now and he loves his bath and gets one each night. i use soap about every other day unless he’s really dirty.
