Man with nail clippers charged with menacing

A Greeley man was arrested outside the Weld County Commissioners’ meeting Monday morning after he allegedly threatened security guards with nail clippers.

Mark Douglas Becker, 60, is in Weld County Jail on a charge of felony menacing after the incident at a courthouse in Greeley.

According to Weld County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Margie Martinez Perusek, Becker was planning to attend a county commissioners’ meeting when he went by means of the metal detector at the Weld County Centennial Center, 915 10th St.

“He had a pocket knife, and they wouldn’t let him take it in,â Perusek explained. “He then showed them the nail clippers and stated, ‘A pair of nail clippers with a file could do just as much damage as a knife.’ ”

The security guards felt threatened, Martinez Perusek stated, and a sheriff’s deputy was known as to the courthouse, where Becker was arrested.

He will go prior to a judge this afternoon for a bond setting.
