percentile is another way of saying percent. eg 16%.
this is pointless information and not helpful. your doctor should have explained further.
ask a nurse etc or revisit doctor. peace of mind is a need when expecting.

It means that your baby is bigger than only 16% of other babies at 30 weeks old, so while on the smaller size is still fairly normal. It’s really when you start getting down to the 10 and 5th percentile that they start to worry – but even more importantly if they were once at the 80th percentile but then drop down to 15th that could indicate a serious problem. So long as they’re roughly developing at the right rate that’s fine.

basically it means that out of 100 babies at exactly her “age” 15 of them would be smaller and 83 would be bigger. i cant give a weight estimate but at thirty weeks, if i remember correctly, my doc told me my kiddos were about 11 inches and about 3-4 lbs. but mine were born at 8.5 and 7.5 lbs. so i had chunky monkeys. im sure she will be just fine, if your doc was concerned they wouldve given you instructions on how to retain calories and increase your protien to encourage muscle growth which would bump her up on the scale. 16th isnt bad, shes just petite. my daughter who is amost 8 mths old is in the first percentile at 13lbs11oz, her doc thinks shes extremely underweight but if u saw my daughter youd be like wow look at all them rolls. shes exclusively breastfed and has never had formula, she eats solids and plenty of them. i cant get more fat on her no matter how hard i try, shes healthy but shes just small.

She’s not VERY small if she is in the 16th percentile, she is just small, so chill and try and enjoy the pregnancy. She is between the 10th and the 25th percentile on the chart, not everyone can be average or else there would not be percentile charts. With babies there is so much to worry about, their Weight their, heart rate, when they walk, when they talk, when they potty train, almost all of it irrelevant if they are happy. Parental anxiety is nautral but try and keep it at bay untill they are teenagers – then worry!

It just means she that out of 100 babies her age around 84 of them will be bigger. My son was only measuring in the 5th percentile in pregnancy and now that he is born he is still in the 5th percentile he was born at 39.6 weeks weighing 6lbs. Its nothing to be concerned about at all as long as the baby is continually growing.
