Why not go to a different doctor and get another ultrasound just to find out. And don’t tell them you went.

  2. Mary T Says:

i think you would have to change hospitals or you could go some where just to do the ultrasound so they can tell you what sex the baby is.

  3. Baconsmom Says:

    Where do you live, prison?

Switch doctors – it’s up to you to know or not know your child’s gender.

  4. Kat Says:

    change hospitals

  5. Chrystal J Says:

3D/4D sonogram, but I think you have to have one done by your OB first.

  6. MrsPeek Says:

You can pay a little extra and go have an ultrasound done somewhere else. Personally, I would change hospitals. That is the craziest thing I have every heard!!!! Good Luck!!

  7. ChristinS Says:

you can pay to have an ultrasound done at one of those places that does 4d scans for memories. Do a google search for 4D scans and plenty of places should come up where you can have this done. They make a video and everything. I’ve not heard of a hospital with that policy, it seems rather silly to me that they refuse to tell parents. Did they give you reasoning behind that policy?

  8. Fairydust Says:

You could pay for a private scan.
You can get 3D scans which not only let you know the sex of the baby but can give you really good pictures and even a DVD of the baby moving.

  9. loverr32 Says:

unfortunatly if the hospital doesnt allow it theres most likely no way around it and youde have to change hospitals. thats kind of unusual though i wonder what the purpose of that is? anyway…congradulations!! =]

  10. Catherine L Says:

Some simply don’t do it due to liability. You could go and pay for an ultrasound at another doctor, but it probably won’t be covered under insurance. I would find out about their other policies and then make the decision whether to switch doctors or hospitals.

  11. Sept.♥Baby! Says:

Go get a 4 d ultrasound done they will tell you. Also Planned Parent hood also does ultrasounds at good prices. You could check into that as well

  12. Portland Mom Says:

Wow- I’ve heard of that, they don’t want to get it wrong so they just don’t tell. That’s nuts if you ask me, you think they could just have you sign some sort of waiver. You could get an ultrasound from somewhere else and have them tell you. If your whole hospital is like this there must be somewhere that other women go to find out. Is there a 3D ultrasound place near you? They usually do non-medically necessary ultrasounds so you may have luck with them.

  13. crave knowledge Says:

You could go somewhere else for your ultrasound. If you haven’t already had it, that might be an option. You can go to a different location for the ultrasound, but still give birth at your first hospital of choice, can’t you?

If you can’t just don’t worry about it. We didn’t find out with our first two, then our second two we did. Both ways are fun!!!

  14. Mommy-to-Be Says:

Depending on where you live there are independent ultrasound facilitys. You can find out the gender but you have to pay out of pocket. Good Luck!

  15. blueberry Says:

i would change hospitals immediately, every mom has a right to know,by the way is it an American hospital?

  16. Rossy Says:

that’s weird… i have never heard of a hospital that won’t tell you the gender. yeah, definitely change hospitals and or drs.

  17. My3Boys Says:

You’d have to request that your dr’s office book you an ultrasound at a hospital that will reveal the gender.

  18. Paula R Says:

When I had my first two, the hospital policy was not to disclose gender and they really stuck to it, things changed just before I had my third, then she was in such a position, it wasn’t really obvious what gender she was but she said 60 – 40 it’s a girl.

Do you really need to know? If so, I guess changing hospitals would be the only option.

The reason our hospital wouldn’t disclose gender was because at the time certain races were terminating female babies.

    Good luck anyway♥

  19. b Says:

sorry but you are all missing the point.
its nothing to do with liability, its racism (sort of)

allegedly they did used to say the sex, but some mothers of a certain religion only want boys, so if it was a girl they would induce a termination / miscarriage.

so they stopped telling people the sex.

the racisim bit comes in because they cant tell one race and not another

besides who cares, so long as it is healthy and bouncing BE HAPPY

  20. slys114 Says:

Speak with your physician and obtain an ultrasound to determine gender. If this is NOT going to occur with either, I would suggest determining whether the relationship you have with your MD is solid or is it marginal? It’s imperative that the rapport is “spot-on” with your doctor…birthing is so intimate, that it’s vital you have total communication with your Doc. If he/she will not reveal gender…and it’s that important to you…find a new doctor that respects your wishes. AND find a doctor at a hospital that endorses the Patients Bill of Rights. (am I to assume you’re not in the U.S?…patients rights are madated here!)

  21. freethewilderslowe1 Says:

you will probably have to pay for a 3d or 4d scan. You could change hospitals but that may mean travelling further when you go into labour. Hospitals have started refusing to tell you due to people trying to sue if they get it wrong and also fear of people aborting babies due to the sex, it is not 100% with a normal 2d scan and sometimes babies are positioned in a way you cannot tell, you can only get a definate answer from a 3d or 4d scan

  22. frizzy-head Says:

The reason for this is what another poster has said: woman inducing a miscarriage because the baby was the “wrong” sex. And really to be honest, the scan isnt done for you to know wether its a boy or a girl, its to make sure the baby is healthy and formed correctly. Its when they check the heart and spine etc. I understand though, my hospital does tell you the sex if you want to know, but my wee one is shy and had its legs clamped shut tucked up at its chest. I’ll just wait till the big day though. Just means you’ll have to buy lots of creams, whites and yellows…

I’ve just read an interesting article on this:
    http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/should-you-have-the-right-to-know-you-unborn-babys-sex-435266.html

I think every parent has the right to an ‘estimate’ of the babys sex, going by the evidence presented. This is not only more of a comfort to the parents but it helps prepare for the birth, thus making life much easier and less stressful for the parents involved.
I truly believe that some people go out of their way to be bloody-minded & awkward.
    What does it gain?
    Nothing.

  24. Baby girl due 27 April 2008 Says:

That seems really strange to me. It’s your baby and you have the right to know the sex of the baby. I would change hospitals.

  25. leaweller04 Says:

surely it is your right to know. it is your baby. you should seriously find out why they wont tell you. which hospital is it??

  26. yourprincess Says:

go to your doctor, or when you get your sonogram. its your right! good luck with your baby!
