I’ll answer again..
6 months is the recommendation.
“The following organizations recommend that all babies be exclusively breastfed (no cereal, juice or any other foods) for the first 6 months of life (not the first 4-6 months):
World Health Organization
UNICEF
US Department of Health & Human Services
American Academy of Pediatrics
American Academy of Family Physicians
American Dietetic Association
Australian National Health and Medical Research Council
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
Health Canada
Most babies will become developmentally and physiologically ready to eat solids by 6-9 months of age. For some babies, delaying solids longer than six months can be a good thing; for example, some doctors may recommend delaying solids for 12 months if there is a family history of allergies.
The pancreatic enzyme amylase does not reach adequate levels for digestion of starches until around 6 months, and carbohydrate enzymes such as maltase, isomaltase, and sucrase do not reach adult levels until around 7 months. Young infants also have low levels of lipase and bile salts, so fat digestion does not reach adult levels until 6-9 months.”

It is recommended that a baby get nothing but breastmilk or formula for the first six months of life. Try getting the book “Great expectations: what to expect the first year.” It answers many of those questions.

weaning? Well BM or formula is supposed to be the most of your childs nutrition until 12 months, but solids in a FF baby can be started at 4 months and a BF baby at 6 months, BUT its recommended to wait until 6 months. YES babyfood says 4 months, BUT that doesn’t mean its a good idea.
BTW a BF baby doesn’t NEED solids until 12 months because the BM changes to adapt to a babies needs, until then solids are just extras.
Heres details as to why to wait until 6 months

it really explains it in detail and easy to understand way.

Your baby pediatrician is the one who can tell u. My baby is 4 months and he started to eat rice cereal and is enjoying it alot. I cannot wait to feed him solids, can’t wait to see the face he makes to know what he likes and doesn’t like.

they say baby rice and rusk with there milk is ok from 3 months.
but when your baby starts to not be filled up by his or her normal feeds from 3months upwards then slowly start introducing the so called solids. if shes or hes not ready then ul know

It is safe to give baby solids from 4 months old- if it wasn’t safe then the manufacturers wouldn’t say so on the labels. But, babies can only have very soft and smooth food from 4 months and usually don’t eat much. I started weaning my daughter from about 4 months and she wasn’t really interested and would only have a few spoonfuls. She is now 6 months and is eating breakfast as a solid, and I am starting to introduce lunch as a solid.
The earlier you start, I think the better, because your baby is used to eating solids from an early age, and gets used to different tastes. If you start later, then they cn be quite picky.
Also, people recommend giving babies ‘plain baby rice’ as a first food because it has no taste but gets them used to the texture of solid food- be warned because some babies hate this because it has no taste- my daughter wouldn’t even eat one spoonful, but when I tried her on something flavoured, she loved it. I know quite a few people who have found this to be the case.

As others have said – it is recommended to start solids at 6 monthes. However, this recommendation is mainly for breastfed babies – exclusively breastfeed until at least 6 monthes, and introduce solids during the second half of the first year (not necessarily right at 6 monthes!). For formula fed babies, it is not as essential to wait until 6 monthes, although starting before 5 monthes is questionable, as a baby’s digestive system is not developed enough for solids. And contrary to what people would have you believe, you don’t have to start on rice cereal. If you wait until 6 monthes, the baby can eat whatever you do, just mash it up.
Companies say ’4 monthes’ on their product not because it is proven by studies and research that this is a good time to start solids – on the contrary, studies deny this outright. They say 4 monthes because they want you to buy their product, period. It is nothing more than marketing. They aren’t supposed to market products for infants that young, but they always find ways to get around it.
I would trust the WHO, Canadian Pediatric Society, etc, before I would trust a multi-million dollar industry that has a monetary interest in what I feed my child.
