just put it in a sippy cup and give it to him he will drink when he is thirsty. If that done work try give him juice but week and then each day do it weaker until eventually you don’t put any in it just like weaning really. Good luckxxx
The only reason you should need to give your baby water would be if its really hot outside and you need to keep him hydrated, babies dont really need water otherwise, and when you do want to keep him hydrated try putting a little bit of baby juice to dilute it.
OK you can get some very good organic no sugar baby juice just add a little to make water more appalling and disuse taste.
that way he will still get the goodness from water and stay hydrated
Try adding karo syrup to it..it makes the water sweeter….or try those new ro systems for your faucet at home…you know the ones that you can get flavor water out of your faucet?
OMG you guys who ever said she was forcing it down his throat. She’s trying…I’m sure the Doctor wants him to have water. Lay off Geesh
The only way I can get my baby to drink water is to use an actual cup. It does dribble some, but she seems to love a cup opposed to anything else I have tried.I know peole are saying that a baby doesn’t need water, but studies show that a little water a day 2-3 tablespoons a meal is healthy for an infant when eating solids. Solids put a lot strain on babies young organs, and water helps to flush it through.
1st relax …. stressing yourself never helps. he’s just a baby. i tried making my daughter kick and play around so she got hungry n thirsty. try everything but very patiently ….
does he still drink from a bottle? try mixing some with apple juice then after a while start watering the juice down until all that’s left is the water. give it maybe two weeks.
i had my daughter drinking water when she was 11 days old, she had jaundice so she started very early. The same way with formula to whole milk. if you give your child formula start with say 7 oz of formula and 1 of milk, then the next week 6 oz of formula and 2 of milk and so on. if you give them milk too quickly, they can have an allergic reaction to it. (my baby will be 10 years old in a month) Hope this helps Cats mom
There is no reason to need to give him water in the 1st year.
Is there a specific reason that you are trying to get him to drink water?
If he is breastfed and you are worried about flouride, it shouldn’t be an issue….I breastfed 2 sets of twins and they never got flouride of water during the 1st year.
My 2nd set got sick recently and we had to get them to drink pedialight..it was a nightmare..they wanted no part of it…they finally would take small sips if we used a normal plastic cup…they thought it was great fun to drink from the cup.
No matter what others have said it is definitely ok to give your 7 month old water – formula is basically water so why would it be wrong?
Try giving him the water in the bottle (just like formula mius the formula).
Side note – do not worry that your son is not getting enough water, because with formula, or breast milk, or baby food etc he is getting his water intake for the day.
If you are still worrying about dehydration then to test this lightly pibch your son’s hand and if his pinched skin goes back to normal imediately then he is well hydrated, but if the pinched skin stays like that then he might need some additional water. Also make sure he is still having consistent wet diapers.
he should be on breast milk or formula but he may refuse water cause of the test try different waters bottled like poland or so. My co worker had well water and for her one kid had to buy bottled water to mix the formula cause she would spit it out and such. the kid hated the taste, weird when the hole 9 months thats all she drank.
He doesn’t need water, but if you want to make sure he stays hydrated or you want to avoid alot of milk in the heat give him Pedialyte. It’s mostly water and it gives him electrolytes at safe levels. I am positive he will drink it all my kids loved it.
My baby did the same thing, but the key is if you keep giving it to them everyday then they will get use to it. Beings though their really not use to it and its a new taste,It takes some getting use to. My baby didnt like it at first but I tried to give it to him everyday and eventually he caught on and started drinking it within a couple weeks. Just be patient. Good luck
maybe he’s too young to be drinking water right now, why don’t u try again after 2-3
months, maybe it will be able to go through his throat, hope i helped and good luck!
Water wont hurt anything yea they say they dont need it but think about it when its warm out we dont only want something to drink when we eat sometimes we need a little something to wet our mouths down through out the day… i would try to put 2 oz of water in a bottle and a tiny bit of formula to ad that familular flavor and keep doing a little less till they dont mind the taste. Its worth a try Good Luck!
he really doesn’t need to drink a lot of water. But if you are trying to get him used to the taste, put some in a straw, have him open his mouth and drop a little in. My son loves that. try after he has eaten so he will be thirsty. Seriously though, he doesn’t need much, he gets it in formula/breastmilk.
My daughter also refused water, She wouldnt drink it out of anything. Then one day she tried pulling my drink towards her mouth, so i gave her a little juice in a plastic cup and she drank it. Made quite a mess but she got most of it. Try adding a little juice to it, Slowly reducing the amount over a few days until its water.
I know people say milk is the only water they need, but i worry she is dehyrdrated especially on hot days.
I can understand why you might think that a baby would need water like anyone else. Water is good for your body but a baby gets all the water he needs from the formula or breast milk. He doesn’t need anymore.
Give him some diluted juice in a sippy cup. There really is no reason to give babies plain water unless they are dehydrated, constipated or your pedi gives the say-so.

Give it to him in water. Or add a little flavor to it

For the first year…all they are supposed to have is breastmilk or formula.
He’s not supposed to be drinking water.

not many little-little kids like to drink water. They still prefer something sweet. Give him MILK
July 4th, 2011 at 10:40 am
give him apple juice and add more water than juice
July 4th, 2011 at 11:20 am
Maybe put something in it that makes it taste good. Put juice in the cup and dilute it with lots of water. Good Luck!!

Why on earth are force feeding your poor boy water?
He doesn’t need it if he doesn’t want it.
He gets plenty of water in his breast milk/formula.

July 4th, 2011 at 1:21 pm
