I have asked different persons including somebody at britax and my wellbeing visitor and they all stated the same point, due to the fact its not secure. But no one particular can inform me why. My infant is sitting up confidently and is as tall as a 12 month old but very slender. She is out increasing her infant carrier as she has to have her legs scrunched up. I purchased her a following stage automobile seat in readiness but i’m told its not secure. Why?

I’m not organizing on placing my child into the new seat till she’s prepared. I believe the purpose us mums are so keen to get them into the subsequent car seat is that they are permanently belted into the auto so there is not so significantly back breaking seat belt twiddling to do.

As extended as the other automobile seat can face backwards it must be ok. The reason it is not safe is for the reason that of underdeveloped neck muscles. If you were to get in an accident although restrained in car or truck seat she can nonetheless sustain injury from becoming in the incorrect kind.

useful info on this website. I think you are referring to group 1 seats which face forwards. I believe the reason they cannot go in this kind of seat is that facing backwards is safer in a head on collision. They are not yet strong enough to withstand the force on their neck if they are facing forwards in an accident.

I always assumed it had to do with muscle control/maturity. I don’t know the real answer but am interested to find out. Most of my reading said it is because it supports the head and neck the most, reducing the risk of serious spinal injuries. Just because a baby is long/tall doesn’t make him/her less suceptable to these kinds of injury. I never understood parents quickness to get the kid in the front facing, step up carseats. My friend was the same way. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Your baby can go into a “stage 1″ as you are calling it as long as she is REAR facing. My son is 8 months old and 22 pounds he too outgrew as do alot of babies their infant car seat {carrier} and is now in what is called a “convertible” car seat I guess this would be your stage one. In order to put your child in a “stage1″ make sure her weight and height meet the requirements and remember babies must be rear facing until 20 pounds and 1 year minimum in the US.
Rear-facing car seats spread frontal crash forces over the whole area of a baby’s back, head and neck; they also prevent the head from snapping relative to the body in a frontal crash.

Apparently its nothing to do with the weight as such, its to do with how well they can support their head. A baby of 9kg or over usually can support their head very well and probably sit up. The other thing to be aware of if you do put your baby into a second stage car seat and she is less than 9kg and you have a crash (god forbid) but if you did your insurance would not pay up if there was any damage to the car seat or worse still to your baby.

my daughter is almost 6 month old and weighs 8kg now.there’s no way of getting her in her carrier anymore.she’s is too long and to wide
quite a big baby.I don’t think it’s very healthy for a baby to be squeezed into a carrier. emagine having your legs scrunched up for ours at a time.i drive for 3 hours sometimes.

Actually, it can be dangerous to have a baby that is too tall rear facing. I work in the OR as a surgical tech and work from time to time in the trauma unit and have seen pelvic fractures, leg fractues, etc. on infants that were too tall to be in a rear facing car seat. This can cause severe damage if your child is too tall and his or her legs are scrunched up on the back of the seat. I had this problem with my son and had to turn him aroudn at 8 months because he was so tall. I even went to my local police station to talk to them and they did say that there are circumstances where an infant cannot be rear facing until they are 20 pounds or 12 months. They even checked to make sure i had the front facing seat in properly. I’ve seen what can happen first hand and would not recommend putting your child rear facing if they are so tall that their legs are scrunched up against the back of the seat.

I had this problem not too long ago. It,s hard to try and find the right car seat especially with all these new laws just come out.
My son was 9 months when i went to get his new car seat. I saw it online at babies r us and it was a chicco forward facing one. On the website it said suitable from 9 months, so i thought right i,ll get him that one.
When i went to the store to pick it up the box said suitable from 12 months so then i were in a bit of a pickle. As i said my son was 9 months old at that point. I explained to the cashier that the seat would,nt be suitable as my son was only 9 months.
They then got onto the phone to chicco to check. They came back and said that as long as my son met the weight criteria then it would be ok. I were in 2 minds wether to get the seat or not. But my son is a big lad and forward for his age as you said about yours. So i decided to get the seat.
He was absolutley fine from the moment i put him in it and loves being able to face forward and see what,s going on.

untill they reach this age the spine is not develpoed well enough to withstand impact if in an accident.
we bought a stage 1 car seat that as sutiable from birth up to 4 years. this one could be used rear facing as well as front facing. it was from britax.
we used it rear facing until he was old enough to go forward and we still had the benefit of it being permenatly fitted
