A measurement is carried out from your pubic bone to the top of the uterus. It is a measurement of fundal height. Normally the measurement will be the identical in centimeters as weeks gestation. It is just one particular way that some doctors monitor fetal growth.

In your maternity notes, there is a chart and after 24 wks the midwife measures your bump at every antenatal app, just to make sure your growing at a suitable rate… I think…

webjens got it right, it can be fairly inaccurate though, they do measure it in the UK, at least they do in my PCT.

im in the uk, the midwife does measure, it called your fundal height. she measures from the pubic bone (where the pubes are at the top) to the top of the fundus (this is the top of the womb) its a guide and not an acurate way a seeing how many weeks on you are. they always give it 2 weeks either side.

im in uk too,i think what you are talking about is the fundal height where your midwife takes atape measire and measures from just below your pubic bone to the top of your bump, which should measure in consistance with the number of weeks you are i.e 32 weeks pregnant your fundal height should measure 32 cm you can sometimes measure a little more or a little less but you shouldnt more or less than 4cm either way so if for example you are 32 weeks but measuring 28 then you would need a scan because it would indicate that your baby possibily is not growing well,on the other hand if you was 32 weeks but measuring 36cm then they would also do another scan as you be further along than origanally thought.
Hope ive explained well enough for you to get the jist.

I am in the UK too, they measure me at each appointment. It is the fundal height.

Fundal height is measured using a tape measure and measuring from the top of your pubic bone to the top of your fundus. It’s to assess the growth of the baby. It is measured in cm and should be respective of the number of weeks pregnant you are (my last appointment was at 32 weeks and I measured 32 cm).

They only started measuring at 28 weeks … how far are you? perhaps it has been too early so far. If not, check with your midwife.
