What if my baby remained in breech position in all the months of pregnancy?
Question by adnan520839: What if my baby remained in breech position in all the months of pregnancy?
At each visit to my doctor, i was told the baby is in breech position, and they told it will be ok till delivery. I am in my 33 week and still the baby is breech. Can someone tell is it safe if the baby remained breech throughout the pregnancy?

Well – delivery would be difficult and they usually recommend a C section for safety of baby.
But – you need to see the positive – Babies dont turn until about 38weeks.
You have plenty of time.
My son was breech at 36weeks, and he was born at 42 weeks because they let me go 14 days overdue. Lovely doctors here.
Babies may go head down in the ȃth week and carry on moving right up until the birth. They usually want to see the head down by 38weeks xx

Most babies do turn before they are delivered. However,if at about a week before you are due,the baby has not, then they can try and turn the baby. This is done at your visit and they put their hands on your belly and literally try and turn the baby.It is very uncomfortable. And sometimes it doesn’t work.If your baby stays in a breech position, then you will need a c-section.Delivering a breech baby is very dangerous to the child.

My friend’s baby was breach throughout her entire pregnancy she had to have a C section and the baby had to be put in a brace for the first three months because the baby had hip dysplasia not saying your baby will have it but there is a chance it’s really not a big deal and my friend’s baby’s hips are completely fine now after wearing the brace.

My daughter was breech until 40weeks, she then finally got in the right position to be born. I wouldn’t worry, chances are your baby will turn before it is born, and if not babies can be born breech. Just relax, you have another 7 weeks before it may even be a problem…and even then…it probably wont be a problem at all.

Most doctors do a c-sec if the baby is breech. Why don’t you do the breech tilt to get the baby to turn himself?

The baby would be perfectly fine throughout the pregnancy. The big question is the delivery. If the baby stays in the breech position, a lot of doctors will want to do a C-section. You might want to find out if this is your doctor’s policy, so you know what to expect.
Here is some information on exercises to encourage a breech baby to turn.

yes it is safe if the baby remained in breech, but you doctor/midwife may suggest a c-section depending on how the baby was lying. i.e feet first (footling breech) or bum first (frank breech). feet first would most definitely mean c-section but i have heard of people giving birth naturally to a bum first breech, though it tends to be more painful and tiring than the normal head first birth.
as you are only at 33 weeks i would not worry so much yet.
i am currently 37 weeks and my baby only decided to turn last week. some baby’s dont turn until 38 weeks.
if you are still breech at 36/37 weeks your midwife may also suggest an ECV (external cephalic version) which is where a specially trained OB will try to turn the baby using external massage of the abdomen to move the baby. this isnt guaranteed to work in all cases as it has been known for the baby to turn back to breech again but as far as i know i think the success rate is about 50%.
as i said dont worry though, your baby is likely to change of their own accord when they are ready.
good luck for the rest or your pregnancy.

it is safe completely safe for the baby to be breech thoughout pregnancy (delivery can be another story) . my first child was breech and at about 32 or 33 weeks the doctor said that if she didnt flip on her own by 35 weeks we would schedule a c-section. she didnt flip and was born by c section at 37 1/2 weeks(perfectly healthy) it was scheduled early because the doctor didnt want labor to begin naturally with her in that position. they can also do an external version where the doctor will try to push on your belly and manually flip the baby by hand before labor begins. i opted no to have my doctor do this i am pretty sure it is safe but have heard it is painful and can be stressful for the baby but it is an option. breech position can also cause hip displasia in babies (my daughter had it) however it isnt serious and 99 percent of the time the baby is fine in a few months of wearly a cloth brace on there legs and hips while a newborn (it sounds worse than it is) this doesnt happen with most breech babies though so dont worry too much i am sure everything will be fine
good luck and congrats
