Most places, is 6 weeks at the earliest. They usually won’t take them younger than that unless it’s a private in home daycare.

I don’t know about the legal minimum age but most nurseries accept babies from 12 weeks onwards. I guess that because in the UK most people are on just about full paid maternity leave (you get 95% of your wages for the first three months although holiday pay added to this means you can come away with more than you would normally earn) that unless you had alternative reasons other than money for returning to your job then you simply wouldn’t. Self-employed people may need to go back earlier and I guess there must be provision for them somewhere but when I was looking at nurseries for my son they all seemed to take babies from 12 weeks onwards.

Hi I am in the uk and am a Nursery Nurse and all the places I have worked at take babies from 3 months!! Hope this helps.
