A major piece of stretch cotton..thin…for swaddling her. In my experience all these swaddling wraps with tabs and ties are negative and certainly not fit correctly…with a huge piece of thin stretch cotton, you can adjust your swaddle to match your child and trim the fabric to suit yourself…I purchased loads in the end and it’s really low-priced and you can get cute prints. About a yard is what you will need. All babies really like swaddling and it aids them sleep and really feel secure.

    Most useful: pram.

I wouldn’t say anything I bought wasn’t useful, but I could probably live without the changing mat, I hardly ever use it now that I’m comfortable with changing him on my knee.

Most useful/couldn’t live without- the swing.

Least useful- a friend bought a lot of nice summer clothes, however, they were the wrong size for the time of year. We ended up giving a lot of stuff to charity.

The swing was the best thing ever. He absolutely loved it. Also the boppy. We used it until he was about 9 months old. He loved to just sit in the boppy and when he was older and learning to sit up he sat in it alot, it was nice because if he fell over it cushioned his fall. He took many many naps in that thing. I loved it.

For me, the baby bath was useless. The basin would have been fine!! And the change mat…you could just use a towel on the floor.

    Muslin cloths were very useful

Well other than his car seat, I guess I would say his bouncer or the Sassy ultimate sleep system which elevates his head a little bit and wedges him in, He never sleeps in his cradle without it.

The least useful thing was a playpen, my son still hates it at 11 months old. The most useful things were definitely an infant carrier seat and a swing, he loved to nap in both of these and they came in handy.

    Nappies

Best things – pram, car seat, baby bouncy chair, muslin squares, papoose
Worst things – changing table, changing mat, snow suit.

The swing was the item I couldn’t live without. It has been a life saver on so many occasions with both of my sons. My youngest is 5 months old ans he still loves his swing.

I cant think of anything that wasn’t really useful. You’ll probably use everything at one time or another.

baby bjorn – it allows me to get things done when he doesn’t want to be put down.

it’s called Hippychick is carrier for when the kid is older and it really saved my back with my second child. When bringing the older one to preschool i didn’t need the stroller (load and unload it from the car…) but the hippychick and i was fine. it’s great for when you have to carry the baby for a while, it really takes the weight off your back and helps you keep a good posture.

    Muslin squares and bouncy seat.

  13. mamma2twins Says:

best – bouncer chair, breast feeding pillow
least – swing, baby bath, diaper genie, sling, cib set (never used the bumber pads, or the skirt)

  14. mommy to a princess Says:

    A boppy pillow.

It’s great to set the baby down on and it works great if you nurse or bottle feed.
It also is good when they are learning to sit up and you need a cushion when they fall back.

My daughter is 11 months old now and likes to “play” with it…usually trys to hide under it LOL.

The most useful item was the vibrating bouncy seat. He loved it and would spend hours in it. The vibrating reminds them of the motions they felt in the womb and it calms them. They are the best things ever.
The item I found wasn’t really useful at all was the baby bathtub. They don’t fit in it very well after the first month or so and it isn’t that comfortable for him. He would rather be in the tub with me, with just a little water and him laying on my lap.

A swing that goes in both directions, back and forth and side to side. I had it for my second child and thought it was the best thing in the entire world. I think everyone should one! It made life so much easier, since I had a 2 year old at the time that I needed to be Mommy too as well.
Rattles were useless in my house along with most baby toys. My kids never played with “baby” toys when they were babies. But oh that swing was awesome.

Baby bath chair, no need to buy seperate baby bath you just put the chair in the bath and you then have two hands free, great when dealing with a wet slippy baby!

The Rainforest Jumperoo and Kidpotamus swaddle me blankets. My son loved to be swaddled up until he was 4 months old. These blankets were the best because they kept his arms inside the blanket, and they had velcro tabs to keep it secure.

  19. Livin'SD Says:

The Boppy Pillow was really helpful for us in having a place to put the baby down – although I wish I had gotten the infant version instead of just the regular one.
We could have lived without the crib for a while since baby co-slept with us for the first 3 months. Probably could have lived without the changing table too since you can change them anywhere.

    I found the following useful:

plenty of muslin cloths and bibs(I ha ve a sicky baby)
    blankets – really cosy ones
    sleeping bag
baby boxes – 2 one for upstairs and downstairs – to store nappies, bibs, baby wipes, baby powder etc for handy access

  21. *CMM* Says:

Her glider. It sits in the living room and moves back and forth rocking her. It’s amazing she slept in it for the first month.

  22. B2B Says:

changing unit-really saved our backs not bending over the bed to change her.we got a present of a change travel bag for her-smaller for travelling-it was crap-too small tiny babies needs loadsa stuff

  23. fijibabie Says:

A base for the carseat capsule. The base fits into the car and the base is strapped in by the seatbelt. The capsule itself just snaps into the base so when you want to take the capsule in and out of the car you just snap it into the base and it is done – you do not have to muck around with seat belts everytime.
Also, the little set of light weight wheels that goes with it – the capsule just fits into that and you do not have to worry about transferring baby into a pram and waking them up.

Most useful: sling carrier and C-pillow
    Least useful: bouncer seat

My baby is only 4 weeks old, but when he is fussy and wants to be held 24/7, the Slingrider has saved me. He just likes to be all curled up, warm and toasty in there. Since he absolutely hates his infant carrier, it is the best way to take him anywhere. And it lets me have my hands free. I use Slingrider, because that was what I received, but I would have been happy with just about any sling-type carrier.

The other most useful thing we have is the breastfeeding C-pillow (aka Boppy). I place a blanket over it and prop him up after feeding and burping to help his digestion and he is happily comfortable. It holds him like a soft hug.

Note of caution: The C-pillows are great but you are not recommended to let your child sleep in them, due to possible suffocation should they wiggle down and sideways. My baby is 4 weeks and he just started wiggling until his head is down in the base of the C and his motor control is not good yet to save should he start to smother. That being said, I let my son nap on it while I am watching.

As for the bouncer seat, it seems to be a very individual choice. My son doesn’t seem to care for it, but my friend’s daughter loved hers. So if you get one, keep the receipt!

As for the playpen that someone else mentioned, it is also a personal choice. When I was a baby, I hated the playpen, but my little brother ended up liking it. You never know what your baby will like until you try.

I agree with the person that mentioned swaddling. I think that I will go purchase some stretchy thin fabric now for that purpose. I have found that the stretchier the receiving blanket the better swaddling it handles. And he does like to be swaddled. Sometimes when he is fussy and won’t settle, simply swaddling him settles him down. When he is sleeping we will suddenly flail his arms and feet which can wake him up, but he is less likely to wake if he is swaddled when he jerks like that.

    Good Luck!
