My little girl is 8 months now and I have kept her on stage 1 formula. I use Aptimil and stage 1 is fine for babies up to 12 months. The stage 2 of this brand is from 6 – 24 months. I have compared the ingredients on both boxes and I am happy to keep her on stage 1 rather than changing as I know she is getting lots of nutrients in the food that I am making for her.
I don’t know if different brands have different age ranges or whether they are all similar to Aptimil as this is the only one I have used since giving up breast feeding.
Hope this helps x

Hi, in SA we get stage 1 formula milk, stage 2 formula milk, wich is usually the follow on milk and then you get a stage 3.
No.1 is for when the baby is born up to 6mths. From 6mths you move on to no. 2. and from a year you can give no.3, or whole cows milk or if you have Parmalat first growth milk or Nido. The difference is, that at different ages your child/babys nutritional needs change, so each stage of milk are changed to suit your babys nutritional needs. For example the follow on milk contains more iron, because at this stage babys need more iron in their diet. My baby is 9mths now and I cant decide whether to put him on whole cows milk, Parmalat first growth or Nido. They say that whole cows milk dosn’t contain all the nutriants our babys need for optimal growth.

Follow on milk, has a slightly higher nutrional content… and i mean only slightly higher, there’s so little in it.
We have moved our 6 month old son onto a follow on milk but only because it’s a bit cheaper than the normal formula milk he was having.
Normal formula milk is fine for babies up to a year old.
